Sunshine in my Soul

sunshine in my soul

We just got back from an amazing weekend on Long Beach Island.  My of my friend’s turned 30 and her husband threw her a fantastic party.  {Fantastic was my word of the weekend – it literally described everything}.  It was so good that I hardly took any pictures and basically only looked at my phone to check out the pictures people posted with the weekend hashtag.

Blushing BakerThe weather wasn’t perfect – it was completely overcast and a little windy so there was no sunbathing, but since we were down the shore, I wanted a little glow.  I finally pulled out the sunless tanning face wipe that my friend gave me to try a few weeks ago.  The color took about a day to develop on my face but it turned out really nice once it did. Since I was showering and getting ready after drinking 2 mimosas (after all, Saturday was National Mimosa Day) I thought it would be a good idea to get full use out of the tiny towelette and rub it on my shoulders and arms a little bit.  BIG MISTAKE!  As you can see the color is great but the application is hysterical!  Blushing BakerI almost died when I first saw it on Sunday morning.  So word to the wise – Follow instructions.  Don’t apply face tanner to your body.  And especially don’t self tan after mimosas! Do apply to your face 24 hours before you want the glow.  I will definitely use these again.

The birthday girl is a really good friend of mine.  She is one of those people who is just a genuinely good person.  She is smart and funny and has great taste.  She is generous and just loves having a good time.  It really showed in the amount and type of people who came to her party (plus her hubby cooked a lobster for all 50 people who came!) She has so many friends because people just want to be around her and she welcomes everyone.  I wanted to do something really special for her gift.  She, her husband and her whole family are amazing entertainers.  They effortlessly put together wonderful dinners and parties with the most delicious food and cocktails.

I decided to make her a gift to try to show how special and fun she is. I decided on a cocktail making kit.  I made 4 flavored simple syrups: dark brown sugar, basil, ginger, and raspberry.  Then I made a cocktail recipe book with different recipes that use the syrups.  I left some pieces of scrap-booking paper in the back so she can add any recipes she makes up on her own (she is an awesome mixologist). And finally I made 30 drink coasters inspired by Kate Spade.  They all had different sayings on them – some were cocktail inspired, some were more personal.  I was pretty happy with the way everything turned out in the end.  Here are a few pictures.  Sorry for the poor quality.  I used my cell phone’s camera.

After a stressful week last week – it was great just to relax all weekend with friends and recharge a little bit.  I’m looking forward to a little  travel and golf for work this week and then a long holiday weekend for Memorial Day!  We’ll be back DTS (down the Jersey shore) with our eating and drinking pants on.  And hopefully with a little more sun.  Follow me on Instagram to see what I’m up to @socodymac.
