Root Beer that’s Beer

As you may have noticed, I like to use alcohol in my baking and cooking.  I find the flavors of a liquor or beer help add a complexity that sets my food apart from other people’s.  In general I love being just off of center.  My MIL describes me and “classic with a funky twist” which is the hugest compliment.  My new favorite drink is exactly that – a classic…

Summer means reading

Its Memorial Day weekend which is the unofficial start to summer in Jersey and one thing that summer always means to me is summer reading! What I’m reading now: “In the Garden of Beasts” by Erik Larson ~ with all his books it’s slow to get into but I love time period (right before WWII) and the plot: Americans go to Berlin during the rise of Hitler.  I’m only 15% in…

Old Navy’s Style Rebirth

When I was in middle school my favorite place to shop was Old Navy.  My mom and I used to go every few weeks and each come out with an arm load of clothes.  As my style grew up a little in high school and college I completely stopped shopping there.  But a few years ago while doing my regular online  shopping at The Gap it became so easy to…

We just got back from an amazing weekend on Long Beach Island.  My of my friend’s turned 30 and her husband threw her a fantastic party.  {Fantastic was my word of the weekend – it literally described everything}.  It was so good that I hardly took any pictures and basically only looked at my phone to check out the pictures people posted with the weekend hashtag. Montclair Film Festival

Over the weekend, my mom and I went to the Montclair Film Festival’s In Conversation with Richard Gere, in which Stephen Colbert interviewed Richard Gere live at the Welmont Theater.  Gere’s new movie, Time Out of Mind, was playing later that afternoon and Colbert and Gere were discussing it and speaking about Gere’s philosophy as a Buddhist and his concept of reality. The back and forth about reality was really fun…

Pesto Veggie Dip

How beautiful are these carrots?  When I saw them, I knew I needed to have them.  I can’t even believe how sweet and delicious they are.  My family wasn’t as excited as I to try them. “What are the purple and yellow strips in the salad with the carrots?” they asked after I peeled thin slices of all three colors into a salad. But all was well once we tried them. I…
